Xiaomi has officially moved into the next generation of its smartphone software with HyperOS 4, and the first beta rollout is now getting underway.
The update is based on Android 17 and brings much more than a version-number change. Xiaomi is introducing a redesigned interface with glass-inspired visual effects, deeper AI integration, performance improvements and an upgraded version of its digital assistant.
The first HyperOS 4 beta wave begins in China on August 14, 2026, with eight devices included in the opening batch, according to Notebookcheck.
Meanwhile, Gadgets 360 reports that HyperOS 4 introduces a redesigned user interface, new AI features and system-level performance improvements.
For Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO users outside China, however, there is an important distinction: this first beta rollout is not yet a global release.

HyperOS 4 Is Based on Android 17

Sportskeeda reports that Xiaomi's HyperOS 4 beta is based on Android 17 and combines Google's latest Android foundation with Xiaomi's own interface and system-level changes.
However, HyperOS and the underlying Android version should not always be treated as exactly the same thing.

HyperOS 4 Could Make Apps Feel Faster

Different processors, storage configurations, memory capacities and app workloads can produce very different real-world results.
Still, optimisation is an encouraging focus for HyperOS 4, particularly if the benefits eventually reach older Xiaomi and Redmi devices.
What About Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO Users in India?
For Indian users, this is where expectations need to be kept clear.
The August 14 rollout is a China beta programme.
91mobiles notes that HyperOS 4 has currently been announced for China, while many of its design and performance changes are expected to reach the global ROM later.
There is also evidence that Xiaomi is already working on software for multiple international regions.
A firmware tracker cited by Nokiamob reports development activity for Global, EEA, India and several other regional variants.
That is encouraging for Indian Xiaomi users, but it isn't the same as an official India rollout date.
Until Xiaomi announces an India-specific schedule, users should be cautious about websites or social-media posts presenting estimated dates as confirmed release dates.
What About POCO Phones?
POCO is another major question, particularly in India.
Many POCO phones share hardware foundations with Redmi models, so a broad HyperOS upgrade eventually reaching POCO devices would not be surprising.

When Will HyperOS 4 Launch Globally?
