Tecno’s latest performance-focused smartphone, the Pova 8 Pro 5G, is ready to go on sale in India on August 21. The new model targets mobile gamers and power users with a fast AMOLED display, dual-chip gaming setup, large battery and an unusual mini-LED lighting system on its rear panel.
The Pova 8 Pro 5G starts at ₹49,999, placing it in direct competition with several established upper-midrange smartphones. However, an introductory bank discount lowers its effective starting price to ₹46,999.
Here is everything buyers need to know about the Tecno Pova 8 Pro 5G before its first India sale.
Tecno Pova 8 Pro 5G price and sale offers in India
The Tecno Pova 8 Pro 5G is available in two memory configurations:
8GB RAM + 256GB storage: ₹49,999
12GB RAM + 512GB storage: ₹54,999
Customers using eligible bank cards can receive an instant discount of up to ₹3,000. This reduces the effective price of the base model to ₹46,999.
According to the available price and sale information reported by Beebom, the first sale begins at 12 PM IST on August 21 through Flipkart.
The smartphone comes in three colour options: Tundra Green, Arc White and Graphite Black. Availability of individual configurations and colours may vary during the sale.
Alive Matrix display gives the phone a distinctive look
One of the biggest visual highlights is Tecno’s Alive Matrix display on the back of the device. It uses 177 mini LEDs to create different lighting patterns around the rear camera area.
The lighting system can respond to calls, notifications, charging, gaming and other device activities. Tecno says it supports effects for more than 49 usage scenarios, giving the phone an appearance that stands apart from most conventional smartphones.
It is not a full secondary screen capable of displaying apps or detailed information. Instead, it functions as a configurable notification and visual-effects system.
The rear design also incorporates Tecno’s triangular camera arrangement, reinforcing the phone’s gaming-oriented, futuristic appearance.
144Hz AMOLED display designed for gaming
The front of the Pova 8 Pro 5G features a 6.78-inch HyperLux AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and adaptive refresh rate of up to 144Hz.
A higher refresh rate can make animations, scrolling and supported games appear smoother. However, individual games must support the required frame rate for users to experience the full benefit.
The panel is rated to reach up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness under specific conditions. Corning Gorilla Glass 7i provides additional protection against everyday scratches and accidental damage.
Tecno has also included 2,592Hz PWM dimming, intended to reduce visible flickering when the screen is used at lower brightness levels.
Dimensity 7400 chipset with a separate gaming chip
The phone is powered by MediaTek’s 4nm Dimensity 7400 processor, accompanied by a Mali-G615 MC2 GPU. Tecno combines the main chipset with its dedicated P1 graphics chip to improve frame-rate stability and gaming performance.
The company advertises support for gaming at up to 144 frames per second in compatible titles. Actual performance will depend on the game, graphics settings, temperature and software optimisation.
The official Tecno product page highlights dual gaming chipsets and support for 144FPS gaming as two of the device’s primary selling points.
The Pova 8 Pro 5G runs HiOS 16 based on Android 16. Tecno promises two major Android version upgrades and three years of security updates. While this is useful, some competing devices in the same price range provide longer software-support commitments.
50MP Sony camera with optical stabilisation
The rear camera system is led by a 50-megapixel Sony sensor with optical image stabilisation. OIS can help reduce motion blur in handheld photography and improve the stability of low-light images and video.
An 8-megapixel ultrawide camera accompanies the main sensor. On the front, the phone provides a 13-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
The complete official Tecno specifications confirm the 50-megapixel OIS main camera, 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and 13-megapixel front-facing sensor.
Although the primary camera appears competitive on paper, buyers interested mainly in photography may want to compare real-world samples with alternatives from Samsung, Vivo, Motorola and Google before purchasing.
Large battery and 45W charging
A 6,500mAh battery powers the Pova 8 Pro 5G, giving it more capacity than the 5,000mAh batteries commonly found in mainstream smartphones.
The larger battery should benefit gaming, video playback and extended mobile-data use. The phone supports 45W wired fast charging, although charging speeds may vary depending on temperature, usage and the charger being used.
The capacity is impressive, but 45W charging is relatively modest for a performance-focused phone at this price. Several competing devices offer faster wired charging, even when equipped with similarly large batteries.
AI call assistant and connectivity features
Tecno has added an AI-powered call assistant capable of recording, transcribing and summarising supported calls. The feature could be useful for keeping track of meetings, interviews and important conversations.
Users should obtain permission where required before recording another person and follow the call-recording laws applicable in their region.
Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, GPS and USB Type-C. The phone also features an in-display fingerprint sensor and infrared functionality.
Strong protection against water and dust
The Pova 8 Pro 5G carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings. These certifications indicate protection against dust, immersion and high-pressure water exposure under controlled testing conditions.
Tecno has also promoted MIL-STD-810H testing for the device. Nevertheless, these ratings should not be treated as a guarantee against every kind of water exposure, fall or accidental damage. Liquid damage may also be excluded from standard warranty coverage.
Should you buy the Tecno Pova 8 Pro 5G?
The Tecno Pova 8 Pro 5G offers a distinctive combination of features. Its 144Hz AMOLED display, 6,500mAh battery, dedicated graphics chip, high water-resistance ratings and Alive Matrix lighting system could appeal to gamers looking for something visually different.
However, its ₹49,999 starting price puts it in a highly competitive segment. Buyers should compare its processor performance, cameras, charging speed, software support and after-sales service with similarly priced phones before making a decision.
The ₹3,000 introductory discount makes the package more attractive at ₹46,999, but the final value will depend heavily on gaming performance and camera quality in independent testing.
For users who prioritise a high-refresh-rate screen, large battery and attention-grabbing gaming design, the Pova 8 Pro 5G is worth considering. Those looking for longer software support, flagship-level cameras or faster charging may find stronger alternatives elsewhere.
