Samsung's One UI 9 beta program, built on Android 17, has moved through multiple builds since its May 2026 debut, and the latest release (Beta 4) brings the most polished version yet of the update — one that leans heavily into AI-driven productivity, a redesigned Quick Panel, and stability fixes.
Rollout Status So Far
One UI 9 beta officially started rolling out to the Galaxy S26 series on May 13, 2026, days before Google unveiled Android 17 at I/O. It's since expanded to more Galaxy S25-series devices, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 became the first phones to launch with One UI 9 pre-installed, on July 22, 2026. According to SamMobile, Samsung has also opened beta program sections for older foldables like the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, suggesting a broader rollout is imminent.
Redesigned Quick Panel and Lock Screen
The most visible change is a reworked Quick Settings panel. Users can now rearrange and resize toggles, and independently adjust the size of the brightness slider, volume slider, and media player — a flexibility Samsung detailed in its official beta announcement. The lock screen's Now Bar music player has also been redesigned, showing an animated waveform when minimized and bolder, card-free playback controls when expanded.
AI and Productivity Additions
Galaxy AI plays a bigger role in this release. Now Nudge analyzes on-screen context to surface real-time suggestions — like offering to save a location shared in a chat directly to Maps — letting users jump between tasks without manually switching apps. Samsung Notes gains a Tape feature that lets users cover parts of a note with decorative digital tape and reveal it later, handy for self-quizzing or hiding sensitive text. The Contacts app now links directly to Creative Studio for generating personalized, AI-stylized profile cards without switching apps.
Accessibility, Privacy, and Security
One UI 9 folds together previously separate TalkBack tools from Google and Samsung into one combined package, and adds adjustable Mouse Key speed for smoother cursor control. A new Text Spotlight feature displays selected text larger in a floating window for easier reading. On the privacy side, a blue location indicator now appears when an app accesses your location, and you can tap it in the Quick Panel to see exactly which app it is, per Droid-Life's changelog breakdown. Security has also been tightened: when a high-risk app is detected, the system now warns users, blocks execution and installation, and recommends deletion.
What's Fixed in the Latest Build
Beta 4, detailed by Cashify, focuses mostly on stability: it fixes abnormal lock screen clock sizing when rotating the device, resolves Bluetooth media volume automation for car connections, patches a bug where the navigation bar disappeared mid-game, and fixes glitchy Privacy Display toggles — alongside the July 2026 Android security patch. Earlier builds also patched system lag during bulk message deletion and lock screen clock sliding bugs.s
What's Next
Samsung is expected to push the stable One UI 9 release to the wider Galaxy S25 and S26 lineup between late August and September 2026. Meanwhile, rumors of One UI 9.5 — a more substantial visual overhaul with additional Gemini and Galaxy AI integration — are already surfacing ahead of the Galaxy S27 series, according to SamMobile, pointing to a Q4 2026 beta and a Q1 2027 stable launch.
