POCO is preparing to add another battery-focused smartphone to its M-series lineup in India.
The POCO M8x 5G will launch in India on August 21 at 12 PM IST, with the handset set to go on sale through Flipkart. The launch date was confirmed by POCO ahead of this week's unveiling, as reported by FoneArena. (FoneArena)
More importantly, POCO has now revealed several key specifications ahead of launch — including a much larger battery than earlier reports suggested.
A Huge 7,900mAh Battery
The POCO M8x 5G will pack a 7,900mAh battery with 45W wired fast charging, according to updated details from the company's launch microsite reported by Gadgets 360. (Gadgets 360)
POCO claims the battery can provide up to three days of use under its testing conditions, including around 35 hours of social-media scrolling or 64 hours of music playback. Real-world endurance will naturally vary depending on network conditions, screen brightness and individual usage. (Gadgets 360)
The phone will also support 22.5W wired reverse charging, effectively allowing its unusually large battery to provide power to compatible phones, earbuds and other devices. (Gadgets 360)
Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 Makes Its India Debut
Another major highlight is the processor.
POCO says the M8x 5G will become India's first smartphone powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, a new 4nm chipset aimed at affordable 5G devices. 91mobiles also reports that POCO is positioning the handset as the first Indian launch with the new chip. (91mobiles)
POCO claims the chipset delivers 43% faster app launches, while its internal testing produced an AnTuTu score exceeding 650,000 points. These are manufacturer claims, so they shouldn't be interpreted as independent performance benchmarks. (Gadgets 360)
The confirmed configuration also includes 6GB LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. (Gadgets 360)
POCO Is Paying Attention to Cooling
The M8x isn't being marketed purely around battery capacity.
POCO has equipped the phone with a triple-layer thermal solution that includes a 12,439 sq mm graphite cooling area, 1,924 sq mm copper foil layer and thermal gel, according to the specifications disclosed ahead of launch. (Gadgets 360)
That could be useful during gaming, navigation or extended 5G use, although we'll need independent testing to know how effectively the cooling system performs in practice.
A More Distinctive M-Series Design
Official teasers also show POCO moving away from the plain rear panels commonly found on affordable smartphones.
The M8x 5G has been shown in green with a textured rear finish, paired with gold-toned accents around the frame and camera area. FoneArena notes that POCO is promoting the device under its “Power Ka Naya Swag” campaign. (FoneArena)
POCO has yet to reveal all colour and storage options.
India Price Is the Missing Piece
The biggest unanswered question is price.
POCO hasn't officially revealed the M8x 5G India price, and the complete camera and display specifications are also expected to become clearer at launch.
Pricing will be particularly important because India's affordable 5G segment is becoming harder for manufacturers to compete in without making compromises.
SpecFront has previously looked at why smartphone prices keep rising in 2026, with higher memory and component costs increasingly affecting how much hardware brands can offer at lower price points.
For now, the combination of a 7,900mAh battery, 45W charging, 22.5W reverse charging and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 gives the POCO M8x 5G a clear identity before its August 21 India launch.
We'll know whether the package is genuinely competitive once POCO reveals the final price and remaining specifications.
