Google’s new Pixel 11 series is barely out, but one model has already produced an unexpected durability result.
The smaller Pixel 11 Pro completed 180 drops and received a B rating in the EU repeated free-fall reliability test, while the regular Pixel 11 and larger Pixel 11 Pro XL both completed 270 drops and received A ratings, according to EPREL data highlighted by 9to5Google.
That does not automatically mean the Pixel 11 Pro is fragile. But considering its premium price and the stronger results from other Pixel 11 models, the result is worth paying attention to.
Pixel 11 Durability Results
The EU Product Registry for Energy Labelling includes standardized information covering smartphone durability, battery life, repairability and water resistance.
According to the reported EPREL results, the Pixel 11 family performed as follows:

The Pixel 11 Pro clearly stands out.
It survived 90 fewer drops than the Pixel 11 Pro XL, even though both are positioned as Google’s premium Pro smartphones.
Does This Mean the Pixel 11 Pro Is Weak?
Not necessarily.
Drop tests provide a useful standardized comparison, but real-world accidents are unpredictable. A phone falling onto a wooden floor is very different from hitting concrete on one corner.
Cases, impact angle, height and surface type can all affect whether a phone survives.
So the Pixel 11 Pro’s B rating should be seen as a warning signal rather than proof of a durability problem.
There is also no official explanation from Google yet for why the smaller Pro performed differently.
The Pixel 10 Pro Comparison Is More Interesting
What makes the result more notable is that last year’s smaller Pro reportedly performed better.
The Pixel 10 Pro achieved 270 drops and an A rating, according to the previous-generation EPREL information referenced by 9to5Google.
That creates an unusual year-over-year comparison:

It would be premature to conclude that Google made the new phone physically weaker overall, but the difference makes independent durability testing particularly important this year.
Scratch Resistance and Drop Resistance Are Different
Interestingly, Google is also promoting improved glass protection on the Pixel 11 Pro series.
The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL use Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while Google says the new Pro displays offer significantly improved scratch resistance compared with the previous generation, according to launch specifications covered after the Made by Google event.
But scratch resistance and drop resistance measure different things.
Scratch resistance mainly determines how easily everyday materials mark the display. Drop durability depends on the complete structure of the phone, including:
frame strength
glass construction
weight distribution
internal reinforcement
impact angle
That means a phone can become harder to scratch without necessarily becoming better at surviving repeated falls.
Why This Matters for Buyers in India
The durability question matters more because the Pixel 11 Pro is firmly priced as a premium flagship.
Google has priced the Pixel 11 Pro from ₹119,999 in India, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL starts at ₹134,999, according to Google’s official India announcement.
At well over ₹1 lakh, buyers are likely to expect both long software support and hardware capable of lasting several years.
Google also promises seven years of software support for the Pixel 11 series, making physical durability especially important for buyers who plan to keep the device long-term.
Should You Avoid the Pixel 11 Pro?
For now, no.
One standardized test is not enough to recommend against buying the phone.
Camera performance, battery life, Tensor G6 performance, display quality, software support and long-term reliability will matter much more in everyday use.
However, buyers choosing between the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL now have one unexpected difference to consider: the larger Pro XL earned the stronger durability rating in this particular test.
Anyone buying the Pixel 11 Pro may also want to use a protective case, especially given the phone’s ₹119,999 starting price.

The important story here is not that the Pixel 11 Pro is suddenly a fragile phone.
It is that the smaller Pro is an unusual outlier inside Google’s own lineup.
The cheaper Pixel 11 scored higher. The larger Pixel 11 Pro XL scored higher. Even the Pixel 11 Pro Fold received an A rating.
That makes the 180-drop result worth monitoring, but not enough to make a final judgment.
For Indian buyers, we would wait for additional independent drop tests and long-term durability reports before treating this as a serious hardware concern.
Until then, the safest conclusion is simple: the Pixel 11 Pro performed unexpectedly worse in one standardized durability test, but more evidence is needed before calling it a durability problem.
