BGMI Lite is officially heading to India later this year, and players may not have to wait much longer to register their interest.
Several Indian publications now report that BGMI Lite pre-registration will open for Android users on August 25, 2026 through Google Play, with an initial download of around 1GB. Moneycontrol and FoneArena both attribute these details to KRAFTON India. (Moneycontrol)
There is, however, an important complication: other reports say the August 25 date and 1GB figure were announced for the global PUBG Mobile LITE, not necessarily BGMI Lite. Until the same details are clearly visible on BGMI's official channels or in the Google Play listing, players should treat the pre-registration specifics with caution. (Gadgets Now)
BGMI Lite Is Confirmed for India
What isn't in doubt is the bigger news.
KRAFTON has confirmed that BGMI Lite is planned to launch in India by the end of 2026, bringing a lighter Battlegrounds Mobile India experience to a wider range of smartphones. (The Times of India)
SpecFront covered the original announcement in our BGMI Lite Is Coming to India in Late 2026: What We Know So Far report, including why a lighter version could matter for players using budget and older Android devices.
The exact public release date has still not been announced.
August 25 Pre-Registration: What Reports Say
Moneycontrol reports that Android pre-registration will begin on August 25 via Google Play, while iOS details will be announced later. The same report puts the initial Android download at approximately 1GB. (Moneycontrol)
FoneArena reports the same details, including the August 25 Android pre-registration date, roughly 1GB initial download and a commercial launch by the end of 2026. (FoneArena)
If accurate, August 25 is important to understand as a pre-registration date, not BGMI Lite's release date. Registering would simply allow Android users to sign up ahead of the eventual launch.
Why There Is Some Confusion
KRAFTON is also preparing PUBG Mobile LIGHT, a lightweight version of the global PUBG Mobile experience.
That game has been linked to an August 25 pre-registration date and an Android download of around 1GB. Some reports therefore argue that details from the global announcement may have been incorrectly carried over to BGMI Lite. (Mobile Goddess)
This distinction matters because PUBG Mobile and BGMI are separate products, even though they share the same battle royale roots.
For that reason, players should avoid unofficial APKs or third-party registration pages and wait for an official BGMI Lite Google Play listing.
What About Existing BGMI Accounts?
Reports claiming an August 25 pre-registration date also say existing BGMI players will not need to manually transfer their accounts before accessing BGMI Lite. (Moneycontrol)
Exactly how progression, cosmetics and other account data will work between BGMI and BGMI Lite remains less clear.
KRAFTON is expected to provide more information about gameplay, system requirements and account integration closer to launch.
What We Know Right Now
For now, the safest conclusion is straightforward.
BGMI Lite itself is confirmed for India and is expected by the end of 2026. Multiple reports point to Android pre-registration beginning August 25 with an approximately 1GB initial download, but conflicting coverage means those specific details deserve confirmation through BGMI's official channels. (The Times of India)
For players using phones with limited storage or less powerful hardware, BGMI Lite could still become one of the most important mobile gaming releases in India this year.
